It demonstrated zero toxicity, which was very surprising, since even water has an LD50. Coffee has an LD50. No animals were harmed in the study!
The “Classical LD50 Test” was a test required by the FDA for approving substances. A rating would result: the dose at which 50% of test animals would be expected to die. This controversial test has since been phased out.
